To run this script on the current setup of shell change this line from

wget http://wordpress.org/latest.tar.gz > /dev/null 2>&1

wget http://wordpress.org/wordpress-3.1.4.tar.gz > /dev/null 2>&1.

That way you will install WordPress 3.1.4 that will work on shell.

FYI: WordPress 3.2.1 and above now requires MySQL 5 and above so those versions cannot be installed on pages.uoregon.edu/duckid as it only has MySQL 4.

@Yannick Sadly, it's been quite some time since I've touched this script. It's really hard for me to fix. You could talk to Network Services or Micro Computer Services (in the basement of mckenzie) and they might be able to help you out. Sorry I can't fix it for you!

Hi Jeremy,
Thanks for the script. I had to make a couple of trivial changes to make the script work with WordPress 3.0. The changes are limited to the few lines of code that set the strings for the default database name and user’s name/password within wp-config.php.

The effected lines of code were within this block of your script:

RAND2=$RANDOM
cat wp-config.php | \

sed -e "s/database_name_here/$WORDPRESSDB/" \
    -e "s/username_here/$WORDPRESSUSER/" \
    -e "s/password_here/$PASSWORDB/" \
    -e "s/localhost/$UOHOST\:$PORT/" \
    -e "s/unique/$RAND2/" \
 >  tmp$$ && mv tmp$$ wp-config.php

The strings with the “here” within them are those I changed.

BTW, I don’t believe the RAND2 variable is achieving any useful purpose but I left the RAND2 code as is because it isn’t hurting anything either.

Heads up All. This script and instructions will no longer work since we have moved all personal web sites from http://www.uoregon.edu/~duckid to pages.uoregon.edu/duckid.

I see some instructors are using this page as a way to have their students install WordPress. Please note this will not work.

We recommend you use ufolio.uoregon.edu for blogs. It is a new service by Information Services.
